During university, I spent my summer working at a golf course. They had these amazing brown sugar hot chicken wings that used only brown sugar, butter and Frank’s red hot sauce. I quickly became addicted to these. They’re sweet, salty and spicy. They’re truly the perfectly balanced chicken wing in my opinion. Because these wings are baked and not fried they are a lot better for you. They steer clear of seed oils which are inflammatory to the body. I really do think that baked chicken wings taste a thousand times better than a fried version that you would get at a restaurant.

Ingredients

  • 25-30 chicken wings
  • 1/4 cup Frank’s hot sauce
  • 1/2 stick butter
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • salt and pepper to season
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Directions

  2. Place the chicken wings on a plate and pat dry with paper towels. You want to remove any excess moisture.
  3. To a baking sheet, at a cooling rack insert. Brush the cooling rack with olive oil. Lay the chicken wings out. Season on both sides with salt and pepper. Roast in the oven for 20 minutes. Once the 20 minutes has passed, flip the wings over and roast the other side for another 20 minutes.
  4. While the wings are cooking, prepare the sauce by adding butter, Frank’s hot sauce and brown sugar to a small sauce pan. Heat the pan to medium-low heat and melt the butter and sugar. This should take 5-7 minutes. Once the sugar has dissolved turn off the heat.
  5. When the chicken wings have reached an internal temperature of 165-170 degrees Fahrenheit, add them to a large bowl and pour the sauce over them. Toss the wings in the sauce ensuring that each one is coated in sauce.
