Appetizers are one of my favourite things to make and to snack on! These steak crostini with caramelized onions and horseradish cream are elegant and delicious. You’ll be shocked by how easy they are to make! They are super addicting and are such a crowd pleaser. The juicy steak paired with the sweet caramelized onions are the perfect match! The horseradish cream is by far one of my favourite elements in this appetizer. Everyone loves a good crostini and this recipe proves that they can be made elegant and easy. Your guests will love these if you serve them at your next get together!

Ingredients

  • Steak of choice
  • 2 tbsp olive oil plus more for drizzling on the bread
  • 2 large onions sliced thin
  • 1/4 cup red wine
  • 5-6 slices of Sourdough bread or one baguette
  • 3 tbsp avocado mayo or mayo of choice
  • 1 tbsp horseradish
  • 2-3 dashes Worcestershire
  • Chives to garnish

Directions

  1. Slice the onions thin and heat a medium sized pan with olive oil to med low heat. Once the pan is hot, add the onions, season with salt, pepper and dried thyme. Stir and sauté for a few minutes. Turn the pan to low heat and cover either a lid for 15-20min or until the onions are translucent. Remove the lid and crank up the heat. Add the wine and constantly stir the onions for 10-15 min. The onions should start to become dark and caramelized at this point. Remove and set aside.
  2. Heat a large cast iron pan and add a few drizzles of olive oil. Season the steak generously with salt and pepper. Once the pan is hot add the steak and cook to medium rare (2-3 minutes per side depending how thick your steak is). Remove the steak and set aside to rest while you prepare the crostini.
  3. To make the crostini slice your sourdough bread or baguette. Line them up on a baking sheet and brush one side with olive oil. Bake in the oven at 375 for 10-15 minutes or until golden.
  4. To make the sauce add horseradish to a small bowl along with mayo, Worcestershire, salt and pepper. Mix to combine.
  5. Assemble the crostini. Add the onions, sliced steak, and horseradish cream.
